Kataang is a ship that dared to be different. Not sure why people think Kataang is a sexist ship when Katara and Aang both protect and support each other and neither is the damsel and the hero in the relationship.
And yet people think ZK is better than the average M/F ship when the reason why ZK is so damn popular is because of annoying overdone hetero-normalic tropes. To the point where people think Zuko taking a hit for Katara is romantic coded (and apparently me and my peers are """delusional""" for not seeing it as romantic coded) and that ZK fanfics are such romantic fantasies of Zuko saving Katara and Katara being such a meek little girlfriend for the badass chad fanon!Zuko. (As if the ZK fanbase is aware that Zuko and Katara are both pure yang energy and they have to make Katara meek to make the ZK ship work.)
I mean yes I am annoyed Z/tara is as popular as it is but Kataang is canon and ZK is dipping in popularity and it feels like the bulk of the ZK fanbase is just annoying ass middle aged women who get pissy at a kids show for not being the adult show they want...
Just food for thought...Especially considering ZK shippers act immature trying to 1-up people by saying their ship is popular (I mean, are they unaware Zukka topped Z/tara?) And again, popular doesn't automatically mean good...Especially since Z/tara is only popular because it hits all those hetero-normalic beats that people adore so much.
Guys, come on, let's be serious here. I LOVE kataang, with all my heart, BUT best friends to lovers is as cliche as enemies to lovers, main guy dates main girl is as cliche as hero falls in love with the villain who changes side. To quote my best friend @dragomer "A knife is cliche. It's still what you use to cut shit with."
The problem with Zutara fans is not the they prefer the more "traditional" romance, or that it's cliche, or that it's smutty, or that they sometimes make it a toxic dynamic, or that it's not a "progressive" ship. The problem is they feel entitled to push their preference as the only correct one - it's the same issue that made the fandom for Zukka, an actual non hetero ship, so hated by everyone else. No one likes the people that think only they are allowed to have fun with fanon. No one likes the people that expects them to disregard canon for the sake of their prefered fanon.
And speaking as a bisexual woman: we gotta stop with this nonsense of labeling straight ships "non-hetero normalic" for basic shit (and the reverse of it, the "hetero-normalic gay ship" that is literally just the age old homophobic question of "But which one of you is the woman?" with woke language attached to it). It doesn't matter if Kataang is "heteronormative" or not, because:
1 - All that matters in fiction is if something is WELL WRITTEN AND ENTERTAINING, not if it's progressive or more on the traditional side, if it's cliche or "subverting expectations".
2 - What media you find entertaining has nothing to do with your politic views and real-life sexual preferences. Liking one of H.P. Lovecraft's stories doesn't make you a racist, disliking Freddie Mercury doesn't mean you're homophobic (though it does mean you have shit taste in music), liking the most traditional straight romance ever doesn't mean you're straight yourself.
3 - In the case of Avatar in particular, lets be fucking real: no way two straight writers back in 2005, while working on a kids show in a network that had a long history of banning episodes of shows that tried to hint or full on talk about homosexuality, were thinking "How do we make this straight ship less 'hetero-normalic'?" They were just writting whatever felt right for the characters and story - that's why Avatar, while flawed and a product of it's time, aged WAY better than many shows of the time that had "be progressive" as the goal, it avoided forced narrative choices that were only made to beat the audience over the head with the moral lesson of the day.

The fanbase is scaring me, the redesigns brought up some weird people that are REALLY passionate about Liliana being half naked
Like theres a whole war going on on twitter rn and the poor character designer got harassed
My problem is with the amount of people upset with this, like i knew we had a bunch of pedos around because of the way tappei writes the girls, but damn i didnt think there were this many of them đ
yes ive heard about that....... im answering your ask late oops haah but i hope the situations a Bit better..... the toxic parts of this fandom give me a headache but my usual motto is to stay off twitter, touch grass, ignore people, and then hold onto my own viewpoints unless proven wrong alsjdflsdj but like. yeah this fandom is a bit tough to stay in when it comes to certain circles (for example the amount of people low quality shitposting / ranting about the fandom or whatever on rezero ao3 atm in the past days/weeks is. mm. interesting). not my first time being in larger fandoms that make you sometimes feel like youre fighting in the trenches (you could name off a few big fandoms notorious for being toxic that date back to like 2016 and odds are ive been in a couple lajdlf) but yeah seeing people complain about liliana and capella's designs and then overly fixate on emilia's boobs when these three characters have more to bring to the table than just that and theres lots and lots of good things to say about the s3 trailer and their designs..... mm. yeah. im squinting hard at a few of the things ive heard on that. but anyway!!
like the new designs are an Improvement. In General. like ok, as a boob haver myself ("boob haver" is the funniest phrase to me alsdjfls but it is true nonetheless, i am one) i do not give a shit about emilias larger boobs like ok?? her boobs are bigger?? she is still my fav ever and sometimes it just happens when youre still a growing teen/young adult and emilias back to her more revealing main outfit when she wore a different outfit in s2 so the difference in chest size is really not that much. but liliana and capella? those are Improved designs. i think ive talked abt the treatment of underage characters / characters who appear underage on my blog before (and i definitely couldve worded myself better then but i stand behind the fact that some of the stuff otsuka and tappei do regarding this in rezero is just Unnecessary).
could designs like emilia's still be improved on in other ways? yeah 100%, just in the sense that there could probably be changed a bit to fit her slightly more timid and soft spoken personality. or you could take different directions on it in general if you wanted. ive seen some great redesigns of her main outfit!! though her main outfit in of itself is pretty nice to look at imo and its iconic and well-known for a reason. im of the personal opinion that i wish it was a little less revealing in the same vein that her s2 main outfit was (i like that outfit a lot!!) but its still a really solid design overall.
i had some faith after seeing the anime designers fix up typhoon's original design to be More Appropriate, and i love how the essence of liliana and capella's designs were kept the same. like its not just that theyre a little less revealing (and even then, theyre both still showing a lot of skin!!! which is good!!! i like the improvement while keeping the main stuff the same), but stuff like liliana's pants aren't transparent (probably to make it easier to animate?) and the yellow/orange gradient in capella's hair looks great!! they also both look more like grown women which is a bonus. unless youre Weird about this shit which is unfortunately a small percentage of the rezero community. like you cant win with those sort of people ig, bc capella's boobs are bigger too ljasdlfj youd think that win more people over.
also i appreciate capella's sports bra bc unlike elsa's outfit it Actually looks like it's supporting her chest. if youre someone with boobs and you dont have a flat chest, youre gonna need support when being active or itll Hurt. and elsa Does Not have proper chest support okay. ill forever wince remembering elsa's design in that sense HAH....
anyway but i digress. i got no clue what to do with toxic people in fandoms despite spending a lot of time lurking in large fandoms with loud toxic people haah.... its hard to do much about it especially with increasingly declining media literacy rates everywhere.... the notorious misogyny/homophobia/etc that can happen sometimes in anime communities.... that sort of thing. i kinda just avoid it when it comes to rezero in specific, or briefly talk about it on here, or rant about it to myself in my head or chat with pals about it in private if it really frustrates me that much!! and id say im a pretty patient person hah... im not frustrated often. and the fandom is not all weird people of course and i can attest to that as ive chatted with a lot of people here... ive also seen a lot of people leave due to the fandom's Issues which is. totally fair tbh.
and i think rezero is often a "baby's first fandom" so to speak... i dont mean that in a bad way of course but its more like its the first exposure to fandom and fandom etiquette and fic etiquette and that sort of thing when it comes to english circles. or at least its a pattern ive noticed, so my theory is that that occasionally that combines with toxic fans and then you get a few people complaining about the community and how bad our fics are on rezero ao3 ig lajdlfjsdlf. which is false by the way :<< and an annoying misuse of ao3 as a free creative archive :<<
but ultimately i hope the rezero character designer's alright (and honestly theyve done super super great work - like the anime Did Not need to give emilia a bajillion outfits and go above and beyond with improving liliana, capella, giving the suwens and their hometown a whole unique aesthetic, etc). and also while i have stuff to criticize with otsuka and tappei... and the toxic parts of the fandom hah... i still enjoy rezero apart from that and the uproar with the designs has not chipped away at me too much!! ive been in this fandom long enough i guess lmao i just roll with punches at this point T^T but i also just try to look on the bright side a lot in general so ;-;;;
these are the sorts of things i like to be aware about but i dont like to get myself super involved with it (since itll probably make it worse and/or make me stressed for no good reason lmfaoo) and i wont let it enjoy the parts of rezero that i do enjoy a lot (which is to say like. the other 98% of rezero hah). so. getting off twitter is the biggest godsend i promise lajdlsfj.
but anyway!! yeah i dont have much organized thoughts on all of this, this is just me rambling my feelings on it. hope this all makes sense anon <3
#idk how things are on the eastern side of the fandom but the western side can be a little. wild yes.#ask#i try to be as fair as possible in my opinions ljasldfjd but yeah like. people complaining about the designs. i dont agree with it for a Lo#t of reasons. and on a lighter note#honestly my only thing with capellas anime design is that her eyes arent more red!! :<< but her pink eyes look very nice too though <3#i hope to see like a red-pink gradient on them maybe... thatd be cool...

Would REALLY love to know specifics about what you are talking about here. I am primed to agree, I want the tea though
the main thing that my brain's been looping on tonight is that the prem is like. Not a pleasant work environment. it's not now and it especially wasn't when roy was Big. i get that we as a fandom watch a show that's meant to be relatively lighthearted but like. the easiest way to put this (i'm sleep deprived and this is gonna be rambly im sorry) is that the homophobic slur from 3x09 is pretty much the baseline of what it's like to go to a prem game. if you go on twitter after matches you'll see people reporting what they heard, and then you'll see other people replying to them calling them soft (or other slurs)
what i'm saying is the fanbase is more james tartt and less ted lasso ygm
and then roy especially but probably some of the other boys too aren't gonna be all. politically correct/know different queer labels/label themselves past gay/straight. these guys grew up (all of them) in the academy system where they were surrounded by this extremely toxic heteronormative masculinity from very young ages (yes i repeat every single one of them you kind of have to go through the academy system to get to the level where you're playing prem football)
i also think roy especially probably has outdated views about disability - i don't think he would ever want to be seen as "weak" (i have chronic pain i don't believe having chronic pain is weak but i do think it's the way roy would view it â we see him doing everything in his power to avoid being seen in pain publicly in rainbow - he's doubled over in pain in the tunnel, but he straightens his spine and steels himself so that that crowd (and the ones watching on tv) won't see him physically hurting)
also completely an aside but i saw that poll that was like "the boys having girlfriends came out of nowhere" no it did not lmao a majority (idk stats but i know from like. observation) of these guys have long term girlfriends, maybe wives, maybe kids. i'm surprised we don't see more players interacting with their kids in the show tbh, but there's only a certain amount of time for them to show that. it's genuinely a surprise to me that there were that many single guys to do the bantr ad in s3 with keeley and shandy bc in my mind almost every single one of them is in a long term relationship probably with kids
i think it could be fun to write out roy learning to be softer with himself and others, but in my brain (again this is all headcanon you don't have to agree with me), roy's probably said slurs on camera before, jamie probably wouldn't know the word bisexual (and if he did - entirely possible that keeley taught him - i don't think he'd label himself as such), most of the boys have wags/kids, and there aren't any out gay players in the prem (which makes colin's strength to come out to the team and the trust he has in trent significantly more weighted, imo)
this is all rambling but uh. if you need me to unpack anything more i can lmao
#one of my dear friends just got back from going to a whole bunch of prem games in england and they were talking to locals there#& the locals didn't have names on the back of their shirts and when my friend asked why the locals just looked at them and were like. âgay.#football culture is Not Great lmao but it makes the story clearer if you understand it ygm#answered#a prem player recently deactivated all of his socials bc of the way fans were treating him online#he scored in like 7 straight games after he did that too lmaooo

Ngl with the amount of antis who interact with my works or end up following me on social media Iâm REALLY losing my empathy for when they freak out about proshippers following/interacting with them. Like. Why the fuck am I putting in all this effort to unfollow and block antis, checking for DNIs and signs of discomfort so I can respect their boundaries, when 90% of the time they donât do the same? I can understand not checking everyone who follows YOU, but following others? Not even a brief check? Does there need to be a giant neon glowing sign for them to take the hint?
I still tend to unfollow/unmutual antis, if not hardblock them depending on how bad they are, but itâs really fucking funny how quickly theyâll victimize themselves for being in the proximity of a proshipper that they themselves followed and who doesnât really keep it a secret. In a weird way Iâve started taking pride in the antis who leave kudos on my AO3 and shit. I donât owe âem shit, I donât consider practically anyone on social media to be a friend outside of Discord, I lose nothing for them fucking off or sticking around at the end of the day. If they end up throwing a hissyfit over what other content I write in my own time thatâs their problem lmao.
Though I really should write more problematic Cuphead fics. Might get some of them to take the hint. For as much as I love TCS, Iâm really beginning to miss the Cuphead game era of fandom where seeing problematic content was pretty common place, even if 2016-2018 was the peak of stupid cringe culture content online. I think that was my first exposure to Cupmug/Cupcest actually lmfao. Adult YouTubers pointing and laughing at it and calling it âcringeâ, blasting it in front of their knowingly underage fanbase because cringe content was majority consumed by dumb preteens. Funny how that works out eh?
Side note: Calamug, Devilcup, and Devilmug were all also decently popular ships back in 2017. Devildice was still easily the biggest, but do not fucking think there werenât HEAPS of toxic fics about âem. Everyone knew they were at least a little fucked up and unhealthy. Boss and employee is a power dynamic. Hot power dynamic, yes, but one regardless. The hypocrisy in this fandom is hilaaarious.
Anyways. Iâll get around to Ch 2 of Donât Stop Singing eventually. Itâs still in the works. Iâm just frankly exhausted with the current state of the Cuphead fandom, though I guess at the absolute least most of the cesspit is contained to Twitter. Not to say there arenât antis on here, but thereâs way less. I can deal with muting people on AO3 if it means I can enjoy myself in peace. Granted, after I post ch 2 of that fic, Iâll probably move on to another fandom for some time. Again: not that I donât enjoy Cuphead still, just kind of tired. Iâm still eager to hear more news, but if we donât get a new season, then. Oh well I guess. At least I can take solace in the fact that none of the folks that worked on the show particularly care about this stupid internet shit-- Dave Wasson and Grey DeLisle interacting with/outright shipping Chadice respectively, DD also interacting with both proshippers and antis amicably. Itâs just suffocating as an actual writer and fancreator being mostly unable to engage with the fandom (or most fandoms tbqh) without putting up a bunch of emotional barriers.
I didnât even get hit with harassment as heavily as some other proshippers in the fandom. Wonât name anyone in particular of course, but Iâve watched people get bullied off the platform while antis gloated after the fact. I was harassed by a popular fanartist who STILL interacts with my works and the most amicable assumption is just that he doesnât know itâs me. I got the LEAST bad harassment, but that required me putting up all these emotional barriers and blocking like half of the fandom.
All so I can not worry about possibly being harassed. Possibly. And itâs so fucking tiring to have to do all the time, but I refuse to abandon my values just because itâd be âeasierâ. No amount of not labeling myself as proship would change the fact that I like and have both written and consumed problematic content for well over a decade. And I would not give it up for the fucking world, because I think as someone who went through utter HELL in real life, that if nothing else I should GET to express what that did to my brain instead of censoring it for a bunch of internet nobodies who donât truly care for someone like me to begin with. Itâs a lot easier to burn out on fandom when you both canât make friends, and also donât want to, because the first time you tried you got harassed.
Iâm eternally grateful for the other proshippers and neutrals in the fandom. Keep on chugginâ.
#personal#cuphead#the cuphead show#yes im putting this in main tags. there is no fucking way people don't know im proship at this point#proship#pro ship#proshipping#pro shipping#anti anti#anti fanpol#profic#pro fic#pro fiction#profiction#okay to reblog

I'm sorry you got attacked by some fans some of them are normal people I swear. I have no problem with people throwing hate at Max and yes I also like Lewis because I focus on what I feel and do as a fan. I think everyone should know what to do to make the community less toxic and I see rude fans on both sides.
You are an amazing content creator and seem a nice person. The only criticism I have is that sometimes you put yourself in the position of "owner of the fanbase"? Sometimes it sounds like you speak for us all when it's not the case.
I'm sure a lot of people on social media act in certain ways to feel welcomed and make friends but in the end we are different individuals that shouldn't be judged as one. This can go for the situation with the Max fans on your post too.
Again I'm sorry you got attacked no one deserves this.
hiya, I'm gonna, try and be nice but this genuinely confused me. but first absolutely now worries i wasn't really attacked or if I was I haven't cared, the post is muted so I'm not seeing anything yk.
but okay, everyone reads posts differently and mb a joke was misread idk but I've always tried to make it very clear that I can only speak for myself? I have in the last few asks made that clear and I try to explicitly state that every time. the only thing I'm like 'lol ur all wrong im right' about is like omegaverse alignment as a joke so I genuinely dont know where that comes from.
I am pretty sure ive never seriously spoken for more people then myself and maybe fran and niamh and I never will bc I obviously clearly cant. and if I ever have spoken for the whole community (outside of that one welcome to tumblr from twitter post) then?? that was dumb of me sorry abt that.
n yea for the last part I have let half the max fans just reblog it like I said before most just hijacked it as max positive n were normal abt it in the tags n then I dont mind I mind the people that start saying dumb shit abt me in the tags bc that urks me for obvious reasons. everyones free to read my posts however they want just dont be a dick n a good few people were dicks. so those I blocked.

âwhereâs the avatar fandom, why is there so little fanfictionâ
Because the first film is not written and made in a way that is conductive of a huge sprawling fandom a la Star Wars or TV series. Most fan content is born from the absence of content, absence of closure, and the like. People feel most inspired (from my experience) to create fan material when they feel like there are gaps in the story or worldbuilding to be filled in.
In contrast, the world within Avatar is decently fleshed out and you can see a lot of the worldbuilding within it. Thereâs Eywa, thereâs the Naâvi, and amongst the Naâvi there are many different clans. Thereâs Pandora and all its cool features and the RDA and all its badness and technology. And the ending of the film is extremely final: the RDA is expelled for good, the Naâvi win, Jake gets to be a Naâvi and have a happy ending. That isnât to say there canât be sequels, but the first film is certainly not written to be the first part of a sprawling anthology. Especially apparent by them going back and adding in a new scene for the remaster that undoes a lot of the finality (Parker telling Jake that the RDA will, in fact, be back, therefore setting up a sequel).Â
Does this mean Avatar canât, shouldnât, or doesnât have fan material? No, just that general audiences are not usually left with the feeling of anticipation or follow-up that other franchises give. Most people who create Avatar fan works are uberfans who were entranced by the movie enough to look into the extended material, learn more about it, etc., but again, because the movie ends the way it does and presents its subject matter the way it does, most audiences leave the film feeling perfectly content.Â
I donât know where people got the absurd idea that having a huge, rabid fandom full of members devoting hours upon hours of their lives to fan creation is somehow indicative of quality or cultural impact. I feel like I have to remind people that that is not the norm. A very good portion of large films, TV series, etc. do not form significant fandoms. We never argue that The Godfather or Blade Runner or Fight Club are not good or impactful just because they have little fandom to their name. (And yes, I checked for Fight Club fanfiction on AO3: most of it on the first page is all âGenshin Impact/BNHA/Avengers/NCIS but in Fight Clubâ type stuff, which is less Fight Club fanfiction than it is just [inserted fandom] fanfiction.)
i, for one, am really glad Avatar doesnât have a huge fanbase yet full of toxic elitist fuckasses and maybe youâre all just jealous
#avatar#avatar 2009#meta#not directed at anyone specifically#many people are very polite about asking about the fandom#just some thoughts ive had for a while#especially after seeing that silly 'wheres the fanfic' shit on twitter

be warned: long post. really long post. mostly because i wanted to get this out of my system.
i know no one asked but since i saw @/berlinini sharing why she doesn't like h... here's my take. i've been in this fandom for seven, almost eight, years. i was a larrie for most of them and... i didn't like harry for most of them either.
yes, i am stupid. this isn't some "oh, it took me so long to see something was wrong", it's mostly a "it took me so long to realize what exactly was wrong and to admit i needed to move on".
and i feel like it's important to speak about this because new fans are being pulled into larry, shamed if they don't want to stan harry too, told that louis isn't enough by himself, that he and his art are linked to harry styles and that's how it works. you see it in youtube comments of react channels and under louis own videos with people who discover him from projects. they're fighting tooth and nail to keep that connection alive, grasping at straws to make people believe there's (still) something there.
now, don't get me wrong. i've noticed the shift too. i've noticed there's a lot more of solo louies joining the fandom, i've noticed that he's being related to h and 1D less and less and i'm happy and proud. i still feel like a lot of larries need to open their eyes (i know some of them are harries in disguise, but, judging by my interactions, i also feel like there's lots of smaller accounts that are mostly louies stuck in the same mindset i was).
i still remember where i was when i first heard the rumors about harry, columbia and how much they were paying for him (mind you, this was before everything that happened in 2015, and it turned out to be true). i had no intention to watch dunkirk, i didn't care about the movie or the promo unless louis mentioned it on a interview. i found sign of the times boring. i didn't enjoy hs1 at all. i didn't like the content he was releasing and even back then i felt like he was too distant, out of touch with reality, performative...
to be honest, while there were a few larrie blogs i checked i mostly talked about it with a few friends who are part of the fandom too, and sticked to reading fics or getting excited about ""proof"" in a small circle.
and this small circle can tell you i would never bite my tongue with them about harry and how i felt about his decisions, and about louis career and the sabotage that was going on.
but i never tied the two. sometimes i would ask myself if i wasn't being too harsh on harry, if all of it was part of his public image, if it was true he was a victim of the contracts too, someone in the closet with no options, and i tried to look "past it". while i enjoyed fine line more than hs1 some of the songs weren't for me either (and it took me six months to listen to it). and it was uneasy for me to see him getting so much recognition when he didn't seem thankful, or even interested in what he was putting out, too busy trying to achieve new levels of fame. and every new thing i find out about him makes me dislike him even more. there's no authenticity, no self-respect, no gratitude, only greediness. empty stay at home t-shirts and data-mining BLM and looking like he's giving an eulogy after winning a Grammy (and only thanking the people who paid for it).
with quarantine i fell back into the fandom and made new larrie friends, and i found myself not kinda believing the "proof" they were excited about, or like i was just checking in for the tabloid drama of it all, too obsessed to let go. but in my mind it didn't make sense, and it didn't feel right, for louis, the louis that i saw, to be dating harry stylesâąïž. sometimes i told myself it was fine if i didn't really like him because louis loved him and it was his personal decision not mine.
i feel like i've been a good judge of character since the beginning, in my case. i picked louis back in 2015 and i'll never regret that decision. i don't think i could ever stop supporting him. but i was so tangled in the idea, had dedicated so much time and energy to larry and that long-suffering, star-crossed soulmate fantasy we built that i wasn't thinking clearly.
i don't think i was actively hurting louis, personally (i never interacted with anyone about larry in other social media platforms, i purchased, supported, tried to promote and streamed his music and only his). in everything but my reading habits i was practically a solo louie already, but yet i was pushing this idea of a relationship that would be really toxic for him, were it to be true.
right now i'm at a point where i feel like i've finally opened my eyes. if they were together, it's obvious they're not anymore. and it's obvious that harry styles is both a blank canvas for sony and the azoffs and someone who doesn't care about what he has to give up for fame. he stopped caring about louis (or anyone who can't either help his career or push his image of the month) in any shape or form, a long time ago.
he surrounds himself with people that don't respect louis neither as a musician nor as a person, and i don't think he does, either. they're not in the same place (mentally and physically, they seem to be unable to be in the same continent for long periods of time). i think i've always known, i just wasn't ready to let go of this fixation i had dedicated so many years to (mostly, fanfiction), and right now i'm pretty firm on my beliefs.
if anyone wants to come and tell me that louis will never be as famous as harry, or that i'm wrong in how i perceive people... go ahead. i don't care. i don't want that level of fame for louis if it comes at that price, and i don't think he wants that either.
i've been here for the highs and the lows of louis career, and i can say i am proud of how his fanbase is growing organically right now, and how he owns his past instead of renouncing it, but he doesn't allow it to define him either. i see a consistency, a hard-working, warm-hearted person, even in the face of everything that has happened.
i see someone worth my time (and my money, which i'm more protective of đ). i never saw that in harry, not even during the early days.

ED trigger warning
On the rise of eating disorder recovery accounts on instagram: As someone who has been struggling with an eating disorder for the past 7 years (more or less), my relationship with social media has been an off and on kind of thing. I don't post anymore, but I follow people. At first, these recovery blogs caught my eye, I kept saving their posts and following a few; one girl has a podcast that I found helpful at times. But as I kept seeing more and more blogs like this, I started to feel bothered by them, even though I'd still look at them. So I'm making these points:
1. for me at least, looking at what other people eat is a trigger. looking at what a person who, supposedly, has reached a point where they have started to recover eats, is even worse: the "what I eat in a day in recovery" has more than once made me compare how much I eat to how much someone who is trying to gain weight eats. When eating my own meals I would think about how I'm eating more than someone who is actually trying to gain
2. is it really helpful to them, the creators of those accounts? Having your meals journaled and witnessed by so many people cannot sound good. Not to mention the kind of comments you're exposed to getting. Say you posting your food can be a meal idea for someone who's also in recovery. But what if said people can't afford that kind of food? What if their needs are different? Can you be sure your post, while perhaps positive for someone, can be just as damaging to others? Not to mention, I've witnessed people posting those positive messages while saying how well they're doing and at the same time visibly getting sicker. And my issue with that is yes, eds are tricky and you can't be blamed for relapsing or refusing to accept that you are, but how will that person who has been following you perceive themselves looking back on your posts? And to circle back to this point's premise, is it really helpful to you?
3. It just feels like a neverending concept. What happens when you feel you have recovered? Do you let go of your blog? Will your ed, given this context, ever let you say "I am recovered"? And if you do, and you one day make that post that states it, won't your followers compare how you look as a recovered person to what they currently look like? What do you think your fanbase thinks? Who is it made up of? People who are in recovery, people who are actively looking for things that trigger them (I am one, I will admit. It's why I don't like them. They feed my ed because my ed wants to be fed so it searches for that)? So isn't this just a toxic exchange?
4. The happy go lucky attitude. To be honest, I feel wrong for this because I think "ok so what kind of attitude should these posts have?" and that right there is an argument. You can't possibly have an appropriate attitude because these pages shouldn't exist. Recovery is personal, there's no general recipe, you can't be the one to ask people if they've eaten yet or to tell them how easy it is to conquer your fears if you put your mind to it. And yes maybe this page is just for you, just something to help you and not others. But if it was really like that, would you be making it public? Why?
I personally considered making one myself, yes. I said to myself "just for me" and then I thought... Be honest with yourself, why do you want to do this? And I realized it was because it would help me be in control of my meals, track my meals (not in a recovery positive way btw) and it would put me in the public eye, so I'd have to behave. So would my followers. Maybe some blogs are good, maybe some are helpful, I'm yet to be convinced that it's overall a positive thing.

I am going to ramble a bit but I will hide it under a cut because it's a bit long. It will be about the previous fandom I was active in around two years ago and how it affects me to this day. It's also about popularity and putting others on a pedestal.
If this sort of ramble isn't up your alley then feel very free to skip over this post! I don't mind. If you want to read more about it, just check under the cut.
The Franchise And Its Creators
====
THE FRANCHISE AND ITS CREATORS Around mid-2014, I joined the Wakfu and Dofus fandoms, a small-ish fandom as a whole but popular in certain circles.
For those who don't know, Wakfu and Dofus are (online, console, mobile, figurine, card and board) games, comics, animated series, specials and movies created by a French studio named Ankama. These two franchises are intertwined with each other as they play out in the same universe but in different timelines. I myself dabbled around in the animated part of the fandom; I was a huge fan of the two series and the Dofus movie.
There was very little catering to the international part of the fandom when it came to the studio's attention and interactions. There were no English dubs or subtitles; international fans had to rely on English fan subtitles on ripped/pirated episodes of the show and movie, same for the franga/comics. Merch was hard to get. A lot of articles related to the shows and whatnot were in French only, which is understandable because it is a French-made product. But there's no denying that the international fanbase felt a little neglected back then.
====
MY FANDOM JOURNEY
Because I was very interested in the lore of both franchises, I had to do a lot of digging and translating to be able to fully indulge in it all. I went full in! I dug deep, created OCs, art and also tried to write fanfiction. I also shared news and info about the series and movie; I ran a fan blog dedicated to sharing things with the international part of the fandom. I was also often approached about lore, particularly for a few of the canon characters and one of the races that play a role in the Wakfu franchise; the Eliatropes. It was fun, it felt good to help other fans out, it was nice to make friends and be creative with others about similar things.
Eventually, the character and art theft began. We all know this is a 'normal' part of fandoms, so I won't hammer too long on it. My issue with it was the fact that my main OC, a female Eliatrope, gathered a lot of attention because female Eliatropes were a rarity in the Wakfu franchise. They existed but didn't get a moment in the limelight, except for one that even received her own game (Islands of Wakfu) but it was so obscure that a lot of fans didn't know about its existence. My OC was somehow mistaken as canon by plenty of folks and many others started to use her as a template to create their own (female) Eliatrope OC. I didn't mind, as long as they weren't straight-up copies and I tried to be supportive by answering lore questions and give feedback whenever it was asked for it (which happened a lot). Of course, copying and theft happened more often than not; over the five years I was part of the fandom, I sent out almost a hundred DMCA reports for art and character theft (like true theft; I could handle some similarities or one-time occurrences). One particular case went to the extreme but I won't beat that dead horse any further; it brought me enough misery to last me half a lifetime, that's all I'll say on it. I kept a lot of the negative experiences behind closed doors and dealt with a lot of it quietly to not bother, worry or burden anyone else with any of it. I wanted a positive and supporting environment for my followers, even if the truth wasn't as pretty.
====
ANKAMA'S STRUGGLE
Over the years, studio Ankama increased attempts to cater more to the international fanbase of its animated properties (articles in English, English dubs and subtitles, etc). However, the studio's struggle to garner the attention of international supporters (aka companies and sponsors) didn't go too smoothly, and to make matters worse, they were also struggling with finding a platform in France to broadcast the Wakfu series on after wishing to take a different and more mature direction. Ankama wanted more freedom with the Wakfu show, like less censorship, a serial rather than episodic, and it not being aimed at a young audience like its previous contractor demanded Wakfu to be. Ankama even turned to crowdfunding to get certain projects (like new Wakfu seasons) off the ground and let's just say that those crowdfunding projects are best described as tiny dumpster fires; they weren't pretty to watch. The first one was a disaster with plenty of displeased backers and the following crowdfunding attempts often didn't meet the end goal due to bad past experiences or the lack of interest.
Luckily, Netflix breathed some life into the international Wakfu fandom, which was great! But it was still received badly (mostly due to the awful English dub and sound mixing of the first two seasons and special) that the third season Netflix made possible was not getting the attention it deserved. It was also a rushed product due to financial and time constraints on Ankama's part. Netflix eventually declined a fourth season and it all fell a bit apart from there. Ankama turned to crowdfunding once more to try and make season 4 a reality. Last time I checked (which was quite a while ago), it did decently enough to make season 4 a reality. (Please don't ask me about it, I don't know anything about it.)
====
THE PEDESTAL
While all this was happening behind the scenes, I was starting to struggle with the reputation I built up in the Wakfu and Dofus fandom over the few years I was a part of it. The best way to describe it is that I had grown exhausted.
Aside from dealing with the theft and answering people's questions daily, I wanted to be treated as an average fan but I kept getting put on a pedestal. People went as far as to call me by titles (like lady Wish and miss Wish) more often than not. To be called and treated as such made me feel alienated, like as if I wasn't considered real. I often asked to just be called Wish, no titles/formalities required, and that I wasn't as 'popular' as they believed, but the majority of the people didn't seem to listen. People were either afraid or refused to interact with me because they considered me 'too popular', or simply wanted nothing but my validation, feedback and/or free art. I also had my fair share of haters and people that didn't approve of my 'status' in the fandom. Join the club xD I wasn't very happy with it either.
I really started to dislike being called 'popular' because it had such a bad impact on the people around me (and my own mental wellbeing). Friends started to become jealous of the attention I garnered and it dragged me down every time. At times, it would turn toxic. It was never my intention to make my friends feel like they meant less because they surely didn't. To learn that they believed others were only friends with them or only looked at their art/writing because they were good friends with me hurt so much. It still does. I refuse to believe that was fully true because I was (and still am!) surrounded by very creative people and they all deserved as much attention as I was getting, at times more. I wish others saw it that way too.
I was also heavily chained down thanks to the role (model) I played in the fandom. Too many people (especially young ones) looked up to me and there were a lot of expectations that I felt forced to meet. I started to lose the energy for it, but if I dared to stray a little from the path, the pitchforks and torches would come out. It was very restricting.
In the end, I felt stuck. Things started to grow toxic. There was a point where I began to dislike the franchise because of the bad feelings it brought me. I couldn't even get myself to watch the series or movie anymore. I focused less and less on the canon side of things and more on my own ideas, which was one of the only comforts I really had left in the fandom. I started to shut myself off, which upset a lot of people. I am sorry for that, I wish it didn't happen that way but I was at my wits' end.
When I realized and also accepted that I was no longer enjoying myself with canon or fanon, I knew I had to move on or stuff would end badly. It was a very tough realization and decision to accept and make; I literally dedicated five years of my life to the fandom. I spent hours a day digging for info and news to translate and share, doing 'research' for my fanfics, answering questions, and whatnot. I truly lived the fandom day in and out. It was the first fandom I ever actively participated in to this degree. What the heck was I going to do without that?
====
THE NOW
Abandoning the fandom was a scary step to take but not one I regret. I left the Wakfu and Dofus fandom behind me in late 2019. I feel freer now and so much happier. I no longer have the burden of expectations, being a lore guide or be forced to portray a certain role model weighing me down. I am no longer on that f*cking pedestal. I can finally explore interests that aren't exactly child-friendly without a big part of my following pummeling me down for it. (Don't worry, I always try my best to keep it in the appropriate places.)
Do I still like Wakfu/Dofus and all the stuff I've created with it? Yes, I do but I also want nothing more to do with it. Aside from the friends I've made there and also stuck around on my new adventures, I left the fandom behind me.
I still get approached at times about how my Wakfu OC, art and writing inspired someone and ask me if I could give them feedback for their own ideas or give them advice/information on Wakfu/lore. I am extremely humbled by it every time. It's great to see someone feeling inspired and be creative. However, I've moved on. I've left interacting with the Wakfu/Dofus fandom and fan-made stuff far behind me. I haven't touched it for almost two years and it shows on all the social media I share my art and writing on. I at times wish people could be considerate about the fact that I moved on but I also know and understand that not everyone knows my reasoning or my side of the story. I try not to be too harsh on it.
====
MY ADVICE
I don't hate anyone for how things turned out; a lot of it was my own doing by not saying no or taking a stronger stand.
It did teach me a lot of things, especially about caring for my own well-being and putting others on pedestals. Please be mindful when you treat someone like others treated me before; it's not healthy, for yourself and the person you put on that high pedestal. Take everything in moderation and consideration, that's all. Everyone's human, everyone has feelings, and everyone deserves a sense of being. Even your favorite artists and content creators. Don't treat them like an otherwordly being that you have to worship.
In turn, if a fandom or something you enjoyed is making you unhappy nowadays, you owe it to yourself to make or find a change. Be good to yourself, always!
~~
Thanks to anyone who read through this ramble. I needed to get this off my chest. I am not asking for advice, neither pity or whatever else. I just wanted to share my thoughts on past experiences because I have a feeling others might be going through something similar.
Thank you again, please take care.

Sorry if you have already answered this but why do you not like Levi anymore? Iâm curious cause he hasnât clicked with me much post time skip either but I canât exactly articulate why
Oh boi, here we gooo! XD
Yes, Iâve been asked before, but I never replied because I got fed up with all the hate I got after speaking up about some stuff I didnât like about him back when chapters 113-114-115 came out. Back then I entertained various anons and discussions about it, thinking we could all have a normal back and forth or agree to disagree, but I guess âLeviâ, being the most popular character with such a loyal fanbase, is a touchy topic for most.
So, this is to say that if you, reader, feel offended by what Iâm going to talk about in this reply, just know that I am not in search of a dialogue about it, and itâs not a personal attack to you, itâs just my opinion - that Iâve spent WAY too much time thinking about, precisely because I was one of those loyal fans and the disappointment hurt bad, and I wanted to cling to a positive opinion of him in the first place...but ultimately couldnât. I wonât change this opinion if Iâm sent aggressive asks, and I wonât change it even after friendly discussion. It just is what it is. XD Nothing personal, I swear! Youâre free to enjoy this character however much you want, it just doesnât do it for me, not anymore.
Also, let me preface this with one other thing: Levi was my favorite alongside Eren for the longest time. Due to Leviâs behavior, AND Isayamaâs writing, AND some of the fandomâs most popular takes, I just started to viciously dislike him for a while. I had his name blacklisted for about a year at one point. Now Iâve calmed down, mainly because I have no expectations anymore for him, and Iâve given up on something magically turning his character enjoyable again for me personally.
That is why I can finally reply to such questions as the above (I will prob curse a bit, but Iâm not mad, I swear XD).Â
Anon, I hope I wonât bore you, and I hope that if you share even a little bit of my feelings, this post will clear up why you may be feeling like that about post-timeskip!Levi.
Iâm gonna make a list of the major things I didnât like about the handling of his character, but I wonât go too much in details because I feel it would become too long a post, and I would get upset all over again lol. Besides, Iâve talked about this stuff in greater depth in the past, already, in probably stronger words.
1. What broke the deal for me was his violence towards Zeke and how the fandom reacted to that, in chapter...114-15(?). I understand people hate Zeke. I donât. I didnât hate Levi either. I quite literally adored both. But after seeing Levi torturing mentally and physically Zeke, and the fandom cheering him on...man, I felt sick. The fandom loses its shit and calls Eren a psycho piece of shit routinely when Eren speaks in a barely threatening tone to Reiner, but Leviâs very personal angry torture is dandy.
About this point, though, it was a piling up of things. I was already royally pissed at Levi for kicking Eren on the blimp in chapter 105. It accomplished nothing, in the story, except estranging Eren even more. In the fandom, it got ereri antis pop a boner, because the hard pill to swallow is that itâs not really the shippers who like Levi being violent with Eren, itâs the antis. When chapter 105 came out, the tag was filled with people cheering on Levi kicking Eren. Thatâs disgusting as shit. This continues nowadays. Just to clear up Iâm not making this shit up:
Anyway, moving along, about this same point, we also got Isayama putting his own spin to it. Finding it funny when at the end of Uprising, Levi kicked Jean and Eren. I mean, I didnât think twice on it back then when I read the chapter because I filed it away as that special brand of Isayamaâs humor that sometimes misses the mark, but then he explained that Levi kicked them because he was mad at Erwin. So Levi is actually a piece of shit who canât cope and thatâs...cute? Because that reminded me very clearly of [tmi] a very abusive person in my life who would get frustrated at work, keep it inside, and then throw stuff at me or hit me. That shit hurt, but death of the author and all that. I could turn a blind eye on what Isayama said at that time. Except then, after the timeskip, this side of Levi kept rearing its ugly head, and it was never addressed as bad behavior, something toxic that should change.Â
Well, except that it was quite literally counterproductive in canon: it made his protegee even more distant (certainly Eren didnât feel more inclined to talk to Levi after Leviâs poor behavior - and we know Levi cares about Eren, but Leviâs special kind of tough love is just a pretty way to call his abuse, you know). And then it literally pushed Zeke into blowing himself up, and we know where that led Levi. It would be oh so funny in its irony IF IT WAS PROPERLY ACKNOWLEDGED in the plot but...nope. (Well, we got Yelenaâs comment right here, but it ultimately lead to nothing).
And it pissed me off even more, because the story is a huge commentary on this, on not perpetrating violence again and again, but itâs so lost on Leviâs character. And I think Isayama isnât even aware.Â
Iâve heard all possible excuses about this, and I just canât change my mind. Unless Levi acknowledges it himself, which is still possible, considering the latest chapter. If he had things to say to Eren, why did he choose violence instead? He may end up reflecting on this and his regrets about Eren but I doubt, because thereâs probably no time and ISYM is doing the bare minimum in regards to Leviâs relationship with Eren.
2. His extreme focus on âKilling Zekeâ. Donât get me wrong, it makes sense in light of him feeling guilt over Shiganshina. In his mind, killing Zeke would make all those soldiersâ lives worth the price they paid back then, especially Erwinâs.
And yet, I really find that it was awkwardly delivered. So much shit was going down, and all Levi ever had to say was âKILL MONKEïżœïżœ (which understandably became the meme it is today because itâs repetetive and cringe-worthy after so many chapters). He contributed literally nothing to the plot. A character like Levi, who had always some wise words to say, some kind of relevant commentary, who had an interesting relationship with so many other characters - Historia, Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Hange, and as the 104thâs mentor - was reduced to a background character whose turn to speak came forward only when it came to just this one topic.Â
He felt one dimentional. Yes, he still doesnât want soldiers to die and feels terrible when it happens - thatâs just...normal? Every single character feels that way. Same with that Ramzi scene. But, like:
> His mentorship of the 104th in such a terrible moment for all of them wouldâve been so interesting to explore, especially when it comes to Mikasa and Historia (but Historiaâs character treatment in the story is a whole other can of worms).
> His relationship with Hange in regards to the void Erwin left in their trio and the SC wouldâve been great to develop. I particularly wanted to see Levi open up about Erwinâs true nature to Hange, especially because Hange was suffering a great deal due to constantly comparing themselves to an idealized version of Erwin. I realize that it might have been my expectations coloring my enjoyment on this one, but from a narrative pov, I feel like their relationship was sacrificed for...nothing.
> Leviâs relationship with Eren, and the shared themes of difficult choices, regrets, guilt, hope, using extreme violence to protect others, as well as the shared goal they had, freedom. The sense of betrayal and hurt that Levi experienced in regards to Erenâs action got a bit of focus, but never received a proper chapter dedicated to it (and I will go down on my little hill that Levi, Armin and Mikasa were the most attached to Eren, whose relationship also got consistently explored and developed in canon, and which was thematically relevant). All of this was thrown into a box and locked away, only to have Levi repeat the same 2 sentences about Zeke every 5 chapters or less, and have a couple choice lines about his feelings towards Eren every 20 chapters.
And what turned me off even more, is that almost nobody in fandom even felt it was off for the longest time. Until it became quite literally embarrassing and annoying recently, since the way Levi got so one-track-minded became a meme. Even the Japanese fandom got finally fed up. Too little too late. Well, not that it wouldâve changed Isayamaâs writing, but it felt really lonely, months ago, when I was the (seemingly)Â only one feeling that way.
Anyway, I think Isayama messed up the writing in this case, though it is something I felt for other characters too, such as Armin, Jean, Connie, Falco, Magath, etc. I really just feel like Isayama shouldâve taken some time off to plan this final arc a little better. But again, it is what it is.
3. Well, this is really a minor thing but itâs connected to what I said until now. When I first spoke up about how I wished Levi would change, or at least acknowledge his own flaws and better himself, some people decided to indirectly throw shade at me in a very chilling way: âAdults donât need to change, and [Leviâs] violence is okayâ. Which, yikes, what a bad take, right there. Especially for such a story, where itâs almost showcased in neon letters that ADULTS NEED TO CHANGE, and take responsibility for subjecting the young cast to violence. Um. Way to miss the point. But also, even in real life... Iâve gone through enough shit in my young age to understand that adults should always challenge themselves, to better themselves. Otherwise, they will continue to hurt others and themselves. I am an adult now and I am grateful to those people who made me realize being a grown-up didnât mean finally reaching a destination. Itâs an ongoing journey of self-discovery. We are constantly changing, we can always do better, we have been fucked over by our parents or other adults when we were kids and have internalized behaviors that are probably not the best, so we should always strive to become the better version of ourselves, every day, to know ourselves, understand our flaws and fight against them where possible, acknowledge that we may not always be right, or perfect.
Thatâs the whole point of Shingeki, too. Just like Zeke was fucked over by the system as a kid, by his parents, by his father figure, and he became a broken man with bad coping mechanisms and behaviors that hurt others and himself, but the point is he can change, and he should, and it would be very satisfying... the same applied to Levi. He even has quite obvious parallels with Zeke, my favorite is them being stuck back as âkidsâ over a paternal figure and the behaviors/ideologies such figures passed down to them. Like, just because stans are fine with Levi as he is (for different reasons that I totally understand! nobody wants their favorite character to be criticized, or worse, their favorite ship to be put into question, because nowadays you can like something only if itâs perfect and pure.../s), it doesnât mean some of his behaviors arenât problematic and wouldnât benefit from self-analysis and growth. Heck, I would love to see my favorite character thrive! But ISYM seems to not agree with me, even though I could see a slice of light in chapter 136, but again...too late, man XD
--- In conclusion...
I ship ereri and I love Zeke, so I am extremely biased, I know. But, as I hope you have understood by reading this waaaay too long and rambly post, it is more than that. Many things irked me. So I thought about them as objectively, and why not, subjectively, based on my reading of the world and experiences, as possible. This is my answer.
Even when I ignore the fandomâs takes about it, it is the writing of what used to be a great and interesting character that bothers me. So, yeah, I donât like Levi much anymore. There is not much to appreciate in the first place, when it comes to his brief appearances after chapter 90, aside from nostalgia of what is lost (all the relationships that were scrapped), and a feeling of âthere should be more...right?â. The truth is, Leviâs role in the story was heavily downsized. And what was left was poorly handled, in my opinion. Itâs the comparison with what Levi was before that made this so disappointing, I guess.
Just look at the fact that Levi hasnât said a single thing about the Rumbling - I had to come up with a very liberal and creative interpretation that it was actually an avoidance coping on Leviâs part in regards to Eren, and not Isayamaâs poor writing. XD
Anyway, yeah. This is mostly it. Maybe this wonât resonate with you, anon, maybe it will. Let me know.

I am a huge Hannibal fan / Hannigram shipper and know well enough that the new show has no relationship with Hannibal TV show. But as far as harassing the show-runner is concerned, it was Kurtzman who diminished the show labelling it nothing more than a gore-fest in comparison to what he claims would be 'meaningful cases'. What was the point of this kind of ignorant dismissal and insult ? They aren't related, and should be left at that, so yes some fans are disturbed at that, not the show.
[Also many of us have read the books, seen the movies. Fans thinking that Clarice is a problem from the Hannibal show are not correct either, just like you are incorrect thinking we want a crossover, because the shows exist in different universe so completely there is no chance it may cross path. But you are ignorant and loud mouthed.]] //end of questions from the same author, I think?// - - - So, by that logic, the show Clarice holds absolutely no interest for you and this entire fanbase. Has no connection to Hannibal and shouldnât even be in your orbit? Why would you be actively pursuing a hate campaign for the series and anyone that is excited about there being a show based around Clarice Starling? Why not just focus on the Season 4 campaigns? The Clarice tags on this site as well as twitter are clogged with people spewing hatred and false statements. Like Clarice doesnât have the rights to any Harris characters apart from Clarice Starling herself (it has the rights to dozens, and the first episode alone had physical appearances of 6, 2 verbal/visual references to other characters). And the perpetual spreading of the false narratives that one: Clarice Starling is a ârip-offâ character of Will Graham. and two: that Clarice Starling doesnât have enough to her character to hold up a tv series, when sheâs the main character of both The Silence of the Lambs *and* Hannibal novels and films. Iâm a huge Lecterverse fan. I followed NBCâs show from the pilot episode. Being a part of that fanbase for so long, Iâve watched it slowly transform into a toxic, aggressive and sad shell of itâs former self. Attacking fellow fans, attacking other shows, attacking actors and actresses for no reason. The toxicity and vitriol from that fanbase has tainted the show for me, I havenât had the heart to re-watch it in at least two years. The final straw for me was when some fan account decided to steal my own picture and photoshop Will Grahamâs face over my own. Who does that? My point wasnât that you guys dream about a crossover, itâs that you would better benefit the Season 4 campaign if you advocated for a crossover rather than trying to tank the show before it even begins. MGM holds those rights that a fourth season desperately needs. You want to be friends with them, not enemies. I remember how bad things went when the BBC Sherlock fanbase decided to start a hate campaign with the CBS Elementary series, and itâs really disappointing that 9 years later, yâall are acting the exact same way. Any Lecter adaptation is a good thing, not something that should be aggressively loathed like some scorned lover. As for the Kurtzman quote, Iâd really enjoy a link to the article in question, cuz Iâve read through about 6 of them and hereâs the only two I see that mention Hannibal Lecter, and they donât seem offensive to me at all as a fan of both series? âBut it's been quite liberating because we have no interest in writing about Hannibal â not because we didn't love the films and the show, but because it was done so well by so many people that it didn't feel fresh for us,â and âLet me say that weâre not doing what the show Hannibal did and that was make a literal meal of the murders themselves. Our goal, when we pick individual cases, is to always organize our story break around whatâs going on for the characters and then how can the case itself somehow illuminate some inner struggle that theyâre not confronting? So, we donât really break story or grisly murders or âwhatâs the grisliest murder we can put on camera?â We break story from the point of view of asking âWhat are they not looking at? What are they afraid to look at? What are they scared to look at? And how does this case open a door for them that they may not necessarily want to walk through?â Those both are factual and fair statements to me. Hannibal Lecterâs character has been portrayed in 5 films and one television series by some incredibly talented and decorated actors. Brian Cox, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Gaspard Ulliel, briefly as young Lecter by Aaron Thomas and of course, by the incredible Mads Mikkelsen. His story is fully realized, from birth to old age. Why mess with fantastic acting and storytelling when you can tap into an untold story about Clarice, her years from the end of The Silence of the Lambs to the start of the Hannibal novel. Thatâs a 7 year gap to fill, and one that can be told easily without Lecterâs name. NBC Hannibal had wonderful cinematography, and we can all agree that it was gory pieces of art. It was so graphic that it turned away certain viewers at the time of airing because of how graphic it was at the time. In the one episode weâve gotten of Clarice so far, the deaths are not âpieces of artâ, they focus less on the killer and more on the victims, which is perfectly in line with Clariceâs empathy. It doesnât suit the tone of the story these writers are trying to tell. I donât find those statements insulting, I find them factual. Not everyone is interested in the gory death scenes. And I think emphasizing the victimâs stories are rather fitting for the time period weâre in now, it reminds me of the late Michelle McNamaraâs true crime novel, Iâll Be Gone In The Dark. tldr: if you donât like the concept of a Clarice Starling standalone series, then donât watch it. but donât actively mistreat those that do want to watch it and are curious to check it out. as this series holds absolutely nothing against Hannibal and the fan campaign to get a fourth season. and donât be rude? isnât that the entire tagline of Hannibal? Lol.

Lol its fine!! Reply whenever you can ^_^
But ahh true, true. Idk why I thought it would be a hint to the music lol but a sort og an evolution of the concept so to speak. Either way, am excited for the comeback because fresh svt is always iconic. Oohhh the concept photos are all pretty and idk which one to pick jfkshfjsjd. Like they are all very on brand for them but also unique and pretty. Very artsy haha.
Ahh yes, rabbitnwas forever iconic and it was what helped other places like discord to do similar things! But ah understandable!! Both seventeen and nct (when I was getting into kpop more) always felt like BIG well known groups due to their fandoms being so big at least to me. Especially when people always recommended their songs i just assumed they have been around for a while like bts when I joined only to realize they are still rookies. Monster rookies indeed!! The fact so many people love them is enough for me to say they are amazing, well respected and loved by many. Those comments annoy me, especially when people downplay their hard work by claiming 'bighit helped them get more famous' like what!? Yes bighit did help with getting more western attention per se but like downplaying as if they haven't achieved anything at all is confusing to me. Claiming how streaming fans aren't doing s good job to which im like one, mass streaming isn't healthy and two, fans who do try their best and we do beat records of our own. Seventeen isn't unpopular, just because they aren't you know who level doesn't mean they aren't big like do people forget what unpopular means?
Anywhoo, a day late but happy late birthday to our tiger King. May he forever rule the tiger land and take over the world with his tiger agenda lol.
yes! one side fits my aesthetic the best but all the concept photos were nice ^^
and yeah it is annoying but at the same time those people are so detached from reality that I'm just sort of like whatever djflgj like 'it's obvious to anyone who knows what they're talking about you're wrong so I'm not going to bother arguing w you' is sort of my mindset when i see those comments dhfkj bc if i don't think of it that way then i get angry easily. the way i see it bh/hybe definitely is helping SVT with western promotions but like. i don't think SVT/pledis would have been incapable of expanding into the western market on their own if they wanted to. but it's a given that it will be easier and faster with hybe bc they have connections and a reputation in the western market already established. honestly I'd guess that was one of pledis's main incentives for agreeing to the acquisition. but at the same time hybe and western media wouldn't give SVT the time of day if they truly were the flops some ppl try to claim they are lol
and yeah agreed, streaming culture can be super unhealthy. it's one thing to do it if you want to but at the same time don't be losing sleep over it or prioritizing it over your real life responsibilities. and definitely don't guilt trip and say a bunch of toxic things to others to get them to stream... i feel like it would be a lot healthier if fanbases just stuck to simply explaining, hey this is what streaming is and why it can be important (for like music shows etc) and here's how to do it properly if you choose to stream, and then just let people decide for themselves. there would still be people more than willing to do it, and without the guilt tripping maybe even more people would just find it enjoyable. but hey, what do i know? ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
i also think most kpop stans underestimate how many views from from casual listeners and fans vs hardcore fans/streamers. like streaming does make a difference, but not 100M views difference like some people try to act like it does. tbh there are a lot of groups that have a smaller core fanbase than SVT but get hundreds of millions of views bc they have a lot of casual listeners. you can even see it internally too: don't wanna cry is SVTs most viewed MV by a mile, it's the only one to pass 100M views, let alone 200M. and it has nothing to do w carats streaming dwc extra hard, it's bc it's arguably SVTs most well known song outside of the fandom. i see reactors all the time who react to it and say "oh i know this song! i had no idea it was by seventeen" and you can look at the comments section and see a bunch of people saying the song has a fandom of its own/even if you're not a carat you have to know this song
kpop stans also put too much emphasis on views imo and also equate views to popularity, which on the surface might make sense but isn't always the case. actually in terms of profit, groups/companies make the vast majority of their money off of album, merch, and ticket sales than they do off of views. but those are all things that are a lot harder to "sell" than views, because they actually cost money for the consumer, while you can watch an MV for free. hence why it makes sense that there are a lot of groups with hundreds of millions of views that get relatively low album sales. it's easy to convince casual fans and and listeners to watch an MV than to get them to buy something
and I'm not trying to diss other groups at all or try to say groups that consistently get 200M+ views are flops, they're absolutely not. I'm just trying to point out that kpop stans completely underestimate the amount of casual listeners that exist
but this is why SVT is honestly such a fascinating case. their MV views are nothing to write home about, and yet they're the second highest selling k-act at the moment and are in the top 10 if not top 5 highest selling k-acts of all time, their album sales are literally insane. a lot of people chalk it up to carats being bad streamers but like i said before, streaming isn't going to make a difference of hundreds of millions of views. this indicates to me that seventeen have a bigger core fanbase (ie people who call themselves carats and actually keep track of seventeens activities) but a smaller audience of casual listeners compare to other kpop groups. and i think a lot of people, carats, and non carats alike, pick up on this in some way or another but don't realize that's what's going on and it manifests in kind of weird ways sometimes
and this fact isn't something that bothers me, i actually think it's super important more than anything for SVT to have a strong core fanbase if what they're shooting for is longevity. but i do find it strange bc as i said, groups that do better with digitals than physical sales make total sense from a consumer standpoint!! so how did SVT end up like this!! it's so interesting for me to think about. i think i would have a better idea of why this is if i had been around since debut but alas
the only thing i can come up with is that SVT is better at retaining fans or like... getting fans invested in the group so people who become carats are less likely to be multistans? bc multistans play a huge part in both being and attracting casual listeners. they're the ones making video compilations and edits and content that includes multiple kpop groups, which is how a lot of non-fans get interested in other groups. whereas if someone is just a carat and making content for SVT the people most likely to watch that content is ppl who are already carats. i know im not the only one that's noticed it's kind of rare for SVT to be included in multistan edits and videos. which i don't blame anyone for, i think most of those people genuinely just don't stan SVT and they shouldn't be expected to include a group they don't know we'll or at all. at the end of the day ppl can make what they like. but it's interesting to observe as a general trend. but idk SVT potentially having a lower percentage of multistans still isn't really an explanation for why SVT doesn't have as many casual listeners bc those things kind of just go hand in hand. like either one could be the cause of the other one if that makes sense
ANYWAY sorry for the long reply but as i said the ratio of SVTs core fanbase vs casual listeners is a topic i find endlessly fascinating dhfmfj

A Rant/Essay about Moira and Sigma and how theyâve changed my life
Hi so I am in a very very very good mood right now and I really want to rant about some things I love.Â
As my followers may know very well by now, I LOVE Overwatch. Specifically I LOOOVE Moira and Sigma. I less so have a special interest in Overwatch and more so in those specific characters.Â
Quick thing for those who donât know, a special interest is a term used by people under the Autism spectrum to describe a subject or thing they have a very strong personal connection to.Â
I have recently discovered I have Aspergers syndrome, a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the personâs ability to socialize and causes them to have repetitive and restrictive behaviors and/or interests. Basically itâs very similar to Autism but there are some slight differences that differentiate the two that I wonât go into here because itâll take too long, but you can research them yourself if you want to of course.Â
This has been a HUGE discovery for me because I have known I was very different from other people for a long time but I had no idea why. This discovery explains EVERYTHING. I finally understand why I have such a hard time communicating with people and why I have such unusual tendencies (such as becoming hyper-fixated on things I like). This relates to my love of Moira and Sigma.Â
In Overwatch, Moira OâDeorain is a brilliant Irish geneticist on the cutting edge of her field. She has made numerous revolutionary advancements in genetic technology and manipulation. She has devoted her life to her work and advancing the Human race as a species. However, she has a very dark side to her achievements. She has achieved her discoveries by disregarding all ethics and morality in her experiments. She has experimented on everything from animals to herself to even other humans. She has performed experiments on herself that have left her permanently disfigured (her right arm). She has performed experiments on people that have permanently changed their bodies in agonizing ways (Reaper). She believes that ethics are holding back scientific advancement and that they are a waste of time. Pretty horrible right? I wouldnât blame you for calling that evil. However, you canât say she is absolutely evil.Â
Yes what she has done is horrible and she is completely morally bankrupt, but she also does what she does because she wants to help people. She does what she does because itâs for the betterment of the world. And it has made the world better! In the lore, she has made numerous revolutionary advancements in genetic technology! She is an absolute genius who is helping better the world in massive ways! But at the same time, she is hurting other people to get there. That is the epitome of complete moral ambiguity.Â
And I LOVE that.Â
You canât say sheâs completely good because she hurts people and disregards ethics as a waste of time. But you also canât say she evil because she has made revolutionary scientific discoveries that could save the lives of millions.Â
I love Moira not just because she is a complex character but I also relate to her on numerous levels.Â
For one, she is Irish and I have a lot of Irish heritage. I adore my Irish culture and I love how she seems to be passionate about it as well given that she is fluent in Gaelic (our ancient language which is actually dying out) and she has a lot of Irish oriented stuff in the game. She has actually really caused me to get invested in my Irish heritage and learn about my culture. Another thing I relate to is that she has a great appreciation for art and is just generally pretty eccentric. She loves dressing up and cosplaying and art and music and all of these different things that I also love.Â
One of the biggest reasons I relate to her though is her lack of ability to understand peopleâs emotions. I am a very empathetic person but at the same time I have a very hard time connecting to people. I have always had trouble interacting with people and making friends because I donât understand how people normally communicate. From what I have seen, Moira is like that too. She doesnât seem to really have any friends (she was sorta friends with Gabriel but that was more of a business friendship) and everyone seems to either hate her or thinks sheâs creepy or weird. I headcanon that Moira is high functioning autistic because of her lack of empathy and difficulty understanding peopleâs emotions.Â
Obviously I am not saying autistic people are unempathetic sociopathic mad scientists, far from it actually. People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can either be very empathetic or they can lack empathy to varying degrees on both sides. Sometimes they are just as empathetic as everybody else. Everyone under the autism spectrum is completely different. I just think Moira is one of the people who lacks empathy to a very high degree. I think Moira having autism that causes her to lack empathy is a very good explanation for her beliefs and how she behaves, not to mention itâs something I relate to.Â
As for Sigma, heâs a different character entirely.Â
Siebren de Kuiper (pronounced âKi-perâ with âKiâ as in âkiteâ) is a brilliant Dutch astrophysicist. He is known for being a very eccentric introvert with a brilliant mind and a deep, fiery passion for his work. He performed an experiment that wouldâve revolutionized technology by being able to harness the power of a black hole but it went terribly wrong. The accident left him completely traumatized and his psyche destroyed. This accident also gave him the ability to control gravity but Iâm not really gonna talk about that in this because itâs not really necessary.Â
Sigma has a lot of anxious tendencies, for example he has numerous voice lines where he becomes anxious or panicked. He says the phrase âhold it togetherâ many times, a phrase he uses to try and comfort himself when he feels panicked. All of these have caused me to headcanon that he has PTSD and/or some other kind of anxiety disorder (although I havenât decided which one yet).Â
I personally have struggled with generalized anxiety and social anxiety for a long time so I find myself relating to his anxiety. Something about seeing this 62 year old absolute GIANT of a man (heâs 8âČ1âł) having anxiety and relating to me in so many ways is really comforting.Â
Whenever I am sad or anxious about something, I think of Sigma and I channel my fears through him. I do that a lot actually, not just with anxiety but with other emotions as well. Whenever I am really really happy about something, I think of Sigma and Moira. Whenever Iâm depressed, I think about Sigma and Moira. I channel all of my emotions through these characters by acting out scenes in my head, imagining scenarios with them, or drawing them. Sometimes when Iâm sad Iâll imagine Moira and Sigma in happy scenarios to cheer myself up.Â
These characters, these fictional things from a video game, have had such an important impact on me I canât even begin to describe it. I connect with these characters so deeply and so personally.Â
I found myself connecting to them mostly during quarantine. This was the time when I was the loneliest I had ever been in my life. I was the most stressed and depressed I had ever been. I had lost a close family member and two beloved pets in a very short span of time. On top of this, I had no friends. I was completely downtrodden and lost. Then I decided to start playing Overwatch again, and everything started to change.Â
I fell back in love with Moira more than ever and I found a brand new love for Sigma. I felt more connected to these characters than I ever would've because I had pretty much nobody else to connect to. These characters became my strongest coping mechanism and, in a way, my imaginary friends. I channeled all of my anxieties and sadness and grief and loneliness through them. I used them to help me grieve my loved ones. At the same time, I channeled my joy and pride and passions through them. These characters give me comfort when I need it most. That is something so special I canât even begin to describe it. I love these characters with every single fiber of my heart and soul. They have been my greatest coping mechanism in these extremely tumultuous times. They helped me find actual friends for the first time in years, friends who I have been able to relate to and who love me despite my odd quirks and behaviors.
These fictional characters, these video game models, these lines of code, they have helped me survive my darkest days and enriched my brightest moments. These characters have fundamentally changed my life.Â
And I wouldnât trade it for anything.Â
Thank you Overwatch. Even though your fanbase can be one of the most toxic things I have ever seen, you have given me friends and two characters that kept me going when life was trying its hardest to keep me down. You have really shown me the power of fiction and its ability to change lives. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.Â
And thank you to whoever is still reading this. Seriously, I canât believe you actually had the patience to listen to me ramble for so long about something so specific to me. Itâs frankly incredible and I have endless respect for you. Your attention span is literally god-like if you were able to read through all this and I wanna thank you for blessing me with your priceless time and attention. It really is amazing.

Memes Kill Creativity?
Memes vs. Genes
In the 1976 book The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins coined the term 'meme' to describe something with symbolic meaning that spreads by imitation from person to person within a culture. This idea is an analogue to the nature of selfish gene, described similarly as a piece of genetic material possessing information required to be able to replicate themselves inside a living. The only key difference in both terms is that the gene is natural, while memes are artificial. The rest of memes' operating schemes completely mimic the genes perfectly. In our current timeline, memes as we know today are taking many forms: as image macros, short videos, and rick-rollicking music. Memes in imageboards and forums have been pushing internet porn traffic into a stalemate and putting our power grid into unnecessary burden. Of course, memes are not to be regretted, but otherwise need to be taken seriously, since they are able to put our current understanding of media industry and economic system into shame.
As with every other thing that have existed, memes are not exempt in its dualistic nature. If you ever venture to the depths of dark web, you may know that memes also took part in the infamous mimetic Tumblr-4chan War. Not only that, some memes are reportedly causing harm towards some users, even though it is often disguised or said to be a dank joke or mere sarcasm. Memes have seen its share of use in online bullying, mass shootings, and hate crimes, cowering behind the freedom of expression tag. Regardless, memes are also an extremely effective form of information transmission. Like all living systems with no set moral standards, memes do evolve and are subject to natural selection. Memes, like genes, actually work like a mindless machine. Again, this is eerily like the performance of DNA in living systems. The last thing we want from this thing is virulence.
Every day, something went viral on Twitter. Hashtags are flaring into the top trends, some videos are being watched billions of times, and another cat vs. cucumber pic garnered thousands of likes. Viral properties of a virus (duh) is defined as the capability to multiply quickly in relatively short amount of time. The term saw a huge increase in usage during the dawn of the internet age and the rise of computer malwares spread through unsecured ports of network protocol. This term is being applied to memes, as it is like a virus (which is a pure embodiment of a selfish gene). Now, a lot of people are utilizing memes to create art, because it enables them to cater the short-attention spans of current internet users. They create shorts, illustrations, inside jokes, and small comic strips. Some of you might not agree with me on this one, but stay with me now and I will explain to you why I would like to treat memes and art as a single unit of interest in this argument.
The dawn of meme-technology
Viral memes and their popularity are now often considered important in defining a time period in the internet culture. Now every netizen can somewhat distinguish the approximate age, sex, and political views of other users from the usage of rage comics, meme songs, and meme platforms they use. Intuitively we can make a generalized difference between the userbase of Reddit, 4chan, 9gag, Vine, and now Tiktok. Others, by the share of relatability with sub-genres of different areas of interest (film memes and game memes). Some others, even, in the perspectives of different social and economic class system (first world problems and third world success memes). Meme preferences to us netizens are ironically giving away our anonymous identity. Identity which the media companies are vying to get their hands on. That's where I would like to come into my opening argument: both memes and genes which originally possesses no intrinsic value, suddenly become a subject of value with technology.
How do we draw the logic, I say? The ones and zeros inside electrical systems are value-free, so does DNA in living cells. As we meddle ourselves with biotechnology to manipulate genetic material for profit, we also simmer ourselves in the computer sciences and tweak physical computation to perform better. We give value in the inanimate object by manipulating them. In our world, we often heard these expressions: that communication is key, sometimes silence is golden, and those who control the information wields the power. Whatâs these three statements have in common? Yes, information and expression. Memes are the simplest form of both. This is the beginning of the logic: memes are no longer in and on itself independent of external values. The infusion of utilitarian properties in memes as artificial constructs are seemingly inevitable, and for the better or worse shapes our current society.
We might have heard that somewhere somehow, the so called âglobal elitesâ with their power and wealth are constantly controlling biotech research and information technologyâor, in the contrary, they control these knowledge and resources to keep shovelling money and consolidate their power. Memes are one of their tools to âsteerâ the world according to their 'progressive agenda', seemingly driving the world âforwardâ towards innovation and openness. Nah, I am just joking. But, stay with me now. It is actually not them (the so-called global elites) who you should be worried about. It is usâyou and I, ourselvesâand our own way of unwittingly enjoying memes that are both toxic and fuelling the age-old capitalism. Funny, isn't it? We blame society, but we are society. But how are be becoming the culprits yet also be the prey at the same time?
Middle-class artists are hurt
Now, aggressive marketing tactics using memes are soaring. Media companies are no doubt cashing in the internet and viral memes to their own benefit. Streaming and cataloguing are putting up a good fight compared to their retail, classic ways of content delivery. This is quite true with the strategies of Spotify and YouTube, other media companies alike. They can secure rights to provide high-quality content from big time artists and filmmakers and target these works directly to the end consumer, effectively cutting the cost of distribution which usually goes to the several layers of distribution line like vinyl products, radio contracts, and Blu-ray DVDs. I believe this is good, since it is like an affirmative action for amateur artists to start a career in the art industry. Or is it? Does it really encourage small-time artists to begin? Yes. How about the middle-class artists? Not necessarily.
You might sometimes wonder, âhow the hell did I get somewhere just by following the trending or hot section in the feed?â. This toxicity of memes often brings some bad things to our tables. Social media algorithms handle contents (like viral memes) by putting those with high views or likes to the front page, effectively âpromotingâ the already popular post and creating a positive feedback cycle. By doing so, they could capitalize on ad profits on just few âqualityâ contents over huge amounts of audience in a very short amount of time. The problem is most of the time, these âqualityâ contents have no quality at all. They just happen to possess the correct formula to be viral, with the correct SEO keywords and click-bait titles with no real leverage in the art movement. This way, I often find both the talented and the luckyâof which the boundaries between them are always blurredâovershadow the aspiring âmiddle-classâ artists who work hard to perfect their craft.
If you are already a famous guitarist with large fanbase, lucky you, you are almost guaranteed to top the billboards. What, you have no skills? Post a video of you playing âair guitarâ and⊠affirmative actions to the rescue. Keep on riding the hype wave and suddenly you get to top trending with minimal effort, thanks to your weird haircut. Those haters will surely make a meme out of your silly haircut, not even your non-existent guitar skills. But still, hype is still a hype, and thereâs no such thing as a bad publication. This also answers why simple account who reposts other peopleâs content could get much more followers than the hard-working creators. Not only being outperformed by the already famous artists taking social media by storm, now the âmiddle-classâ artists are also dealing with widespread content theft and repost accounts because of the unfair, bot grading system. It is unimaginable how many nobodies got the spotlight they donât deserve just because they look or act stupid and the whole internet cheers around them. Remember, this is not always about the artist, but also the quality of the art itself. I believe a good art should be meaningful to the beholder.
Why capitalism kills creativity
The problem in current art industry is that we are feeling exhausted with the same, generic, and recycled stuff. We indeed already see thereâs less discourse about art now. Sure, the problem lies not in the artist or medium, but is in the viewersâthe consumer of the art formâand how the capitalist system reacts to it. The hyper efficient capitalist system doesnât want to waste any more time and money trying to figure out whatâs new or whatâs next for you. What we love to see, what is familiar to us, the market delivers them. The rise of viral memes phenomenon in the social media pushes the market system to the point where they demand artists to create the same, redundant, easy art form. Listen to some of The Chainsmokersâ work and we'll see what music have become: the identical 4-chord progression, the same drop, the predictable riser, and the absence of meaningful lyrics. We sat down and watch over the same superhero movies trying hard to be the next Marvel blockbuster. The production companies are also happy not to pay writers extra to come up with new ideas and instead settle with borrowed old scripts from decades old TV drama. Disney's The Lion King and its heavy use of the earlier Japanese Kimba The White Lion storyline is one guilty example.
Despite it initially being an economic system and not a political ideology, it is untrue that many Marxist philosophers usher the suppression of art. While it is ironic that Stalinist policy intends to curb âcounter-revolutionariesââin this case his enemiesâby limiting freedom of press and media; American propaganda added further so that it seems that the ideology is also limiting art and kill creativity. We all know the Red Scare in the U.S. during the Cold War saw a popular narrative of communism and socialism that is devoid of freedom of expression. This state propaganda then further become âdehumanizationâ and make freedom of expression invalid under the guise of equality. Marx argue that total equality is not possible, and the uniqueness is being celebrated by having them doing what they do best and provide the best for their community. Thus, an individual's interests should be indistinguishable from the society's interest. Freedom is granted when the whole society is likely to benefit from an action. According to Mao in his Little Red Book, freedom of expression in art and literature, after all, is what initially drive the class consciousness. It is capitalism, not communism, that kills creativity.
If left unchecked, the threat of this feedback loop is going to cause a lack of diversity, resulting in stale content, less art critique, and overall decline in our artistic senses. Artistsâ creativity that are supposedly protected by the free internet are destroyed within itself through the sheer overuse of viral memes. Capitalism has successfully turned the supposedly open, free-for-all, value-free platform that is the internet against the people into a media in which they are undeniably shaping new values on its own: the art culture that's not geared towards aesthetics and appreciation, but towards more views and personalized clicks. How social media and media industry caters to the demands of the consumer are, in Marx's own words, âdigging its own graveâ.
Spare nothing, not even the nostalgia
Well, people romanticize the oldies. The good old days, when everything is seen as better and easier. Look at the new art installations that uses the aesthetics of naughty 90s graphic design to become new, the posters released in this decade but with an art deco of the egregious 80s pop artist Andy Warhol, or the special agent-spy movies set frozen in the Nifty Fifties. Nostalgia offers us a way to escape from the hectic choices of our contemporary: different genres of music, dozens of movies to watch, and different fashion to consider. We choose to settle with our old habits, that we know just works. Remember how do we throw our money on sequels and reboots and remakes of old movies we used to watch during our younger days? We donât even care about new releases at the cinema! Did you remember how Transformers 2 and their subsequent sequels perform at the box office at their opening week?
The huge sales of figurines and toys of Star Wars franchiseâif we could scrutinize them enoughâcame from the old loyal fanbase of the late Lucasfilm series, not primarily from new viewers. Then suddenly, surprise-surprise. Our love for an old franchise deemed dead enough to be remembered and treasure soon must be destroyed to pave way for three new outrageous sequels (the ones with Kylo Ren and Snoke) by the grace of our beloved capitalism. Sadly, nothing is left untouched by the capitalismâs unforgiving corruption. Nostalgia has become a gimmick that makes people like some art more than they should, because itâs familiar. It is another way of squeezing your pocket dry.
Not that it is bad to make derivatives like covers or remixes, but the trade-offs are far too high. Consequentially, the number of original arts is now very little, because artists donât bother making new stuff if they just aim for a quick buck. Most of the young adult novels are essentially the same lazy story progression with only different time setting and different character names. Most of them even have the same ending! No more a beautiful journey like the thrillers of Dan Brown or the epic adventures of Tolkienâs Lord of The Rings, which defines their respective times. Do we seriously want to consider Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey as a unique work? Isnât the Hunger Games and the Maze Runner essentially the same?
If you play video games, you must have known that the trend always starts over. Game developers are making gazillions of sequels, and only a few of them that are actually good. Most are outright trash. Oh, wait, old video games like Homeworld are also getting remasters to cater the demand of nostalgic consumers. No new Command and Conquer release from EA Games? Re-release the 25 years old Red Alert because people will re-buy it! Profit!
